oh! i made this so i can follow all the tumblrs i look at :( don't hold it against me

Japan - Day 18: In which I retell day 17

Ok, so last night i caught the train to nagoya to see Mizuki, Joey and Jack! I know the plan was for me to stay in a capsule, but due to the last minute nature of me planning things, it was going to be difficult and so Yuko saved the day by booking me in at a hotel of the same chain as hers in osaka!! Strangely… this hotel was in hostess district and a quick walk around the block resulted in being propositioned around 8 times… sometimes even in english!

I promise there will be a capsule visit though!

So yeah, the entire day was walking around looking at stores and eating, so instead ill give you the pictures that were good from yesterday!

For spirits who know how to party: Asahi beer!

Tanooki yo!!

Dogs : Permitted
Throwing rocks at birds : Banned
Irish : Banned

I just dont get the whole suffocation fetish thing

Oh cool! some huge power branch i wonder what caused it?!

Oh…

Later it was off to the manga museum… protip… its not great. Unless you can read japanese and just want to sit around reading it, you arent going to get much out of this place. Good for a quick view i suppose! They also have a manga making station where elmin and i tried our best to match the quality of what is currently being produced in japan.

The pork king!

Artful shot in which i capture our group in the reflection

Japan - Day 17: No Visit.

Casuals ruining my vending machines

Meanwhile in Kyoto, its time to do some more tourist things! I forget the name of this place, its just a big collection of buddhist places… NEAT

Hmmm seems cool… wait… whats this around the side?

Peace no matter the cost!!

Im not sure why the little stone babies are wearing dresses, but ill let it pass. Time to go and see all the gardens this place is famous for!! I know that the japanese are very accommodating to visitors.

No Visit.

No Visit.

No Visit.

No Visit.

No Visit.

No Visit.

No Visit.

No Visit.

No Visit… but i dont think they needed the rope fence to get that message across.

No Visit.

Fucking kyoto man…. fucking kyoto.

Watch the deer BOW to get food from me!!!!

Japan - Day 16: Anagram City

Ok, i just typed this all up on internet explorer, and then when i told it to post, it did the heading and the tags only…. waste of my time

ANYWAY! I forgot to write about it, but the other day we all went and saw mission impossible 9! popcorn and ticket prices are pretty much the same in australia, so nothing amazing there. I took a picture from the movie that sums up the plot too!

Dinner last night had a talk with a fujoshi about yaoi - that should be enough otaku shit for one post shinn.

Today we took the shinkansen to kyoto, which was once the capital city until they decided to make a new one. As everyone was tired, today turned into a do nothing / sit around net cafe type day, which is fine by me. Jay and i went to a buddhist place on the way though so i would have something to write about!

Note: this net cafe cuts their fruit juice with water… why am i even paying to come here?!

Picture time!

Level 1 watchtower, upgrade for 200 stone?: (Y)

Level 2 guardtower, upgrade for 300 stone and 200 gold?: (Y)

Level 3 guardian of the realm, ultimate ballista, DAMN son!: (Y)

Lots of really detailed wood carvings around here, so thats always nice to look at.

Nooo! the great wood dragon!

Iron goblin!!!!

The black thing in the bottom right corner is a laser device to stop people going near the wall. buddhism abhors loiterers.

I like purple on a building, how about you?

A picture of a bird, since they are necessary

So yeah, tomorrow i will make shinns day by going to the manga museum to read about medieval BL novels.

Finally, a picture for yumi

Japan - Day 15: Aquarium! Aquarium! Aquarium!

I had been looking forward to this for a while, so im glad i actually got to go!! I took many pictures today… about 200, so ill keep it brief.

Damn straight thats a big aquarium!!!

From what i read at the start of the aquarium, they cover the things that live near the ring of fire where all the volcanoes and earthquakes are, because all that fire makes for some good evolution.

Whoooooosh!

Looks like you can have a video tour if you bring a DS! Why didnt i both bring a DS and know japanese!?

aaaaaAAAAAAAAGHGHGHGHGHGH >< >< OTTER PILE!!!!

Sea Otter, just chillin out, maxin, relaxin all cool

Out of all the seal photos i have, this one was the saddest! All the other seals are lard faces who just eat and high five each other all day. This one is forced to sit on his little pier and shiver all day!!

Ok… these dont even live in water! wtf osaka aquarium?

All my puffer fish photos are blurry… sorry

He looks regular size, but this ugly fish is really big! like a small dinosaur!

CAAAAPPPPPYYYYYBBBAAAARRRRAAAAAAAA!!!!

In the penguin enclosure there must be a sno-cone maker or something above them, since its constantly pouring snow on them!!! (also, im glad i took some videos, since they are better than some of my photos)

Stupid eel!! I guess the reason you only see them poking their heads out from rocks and coral is because they are lazy… i saw him move his head ONCE.

Cuttlefish tank was pretty cool, no flash photography allowed here, the only tank with that rule! (though i didnt use flash at all, since the glass just reflects it…)

I liked the sardine tank, they were pretty chill, doing their circuit all day

Creepy ass crabs! That live with these creepy ass fish who seem to be made of mercury or something and are often staying still and pointing vertically…

This is the thickness of the acrylic used at the aquarium! The biggest single piece is 6m x 5m x 0.3m! and is used in their main tank, which is the biggest in the WORLD!!

Jellyfish area was cool, but really dark so most pictures were bad!

See that guy waaaaay out in the middle of the huge tank? He was cleaning rocks, and you could hear him scooping them from outside!

Stingrays and stuff… one even has a lamprey or whatever on it!!

CUTE BISCUITS

Are you a bad enough dude to play a train sim?

Osaka is a port city, and the winds come through at approx 98356928635m/s they are strong.

Relax, its cool, they have a ferris wheel too!

So that was today! even though there is much more of the day left, this is more than enough to satisfy you all! Tomorrow i go somewhere new!!! We havent decided where though!

irispca asked: GJ on 50000 forest photos. Yep. That's totally what we all want to see from Japan. ALSO SINCE YOU ASKED, CAN YOU SLEEP IN A CAPSULE HOTEL FOR LIKE ONE NIGHT? Then do a video log replicating that nice coffin feeling.

EVERYONE likes forests, you should see the fan mail that has been pouring in!! I’ll do capsule hotel this friday night since ill be doing a quick trip to nagoya again.

Japan - Day 14: Another day, another castle

Woke up early so i could sample the hotels buffet breakfast, was a little disappointed as it was just things like undercooked scrambled eggs, weird bacon squares, pretty good yoghurt and personalised mini hotdogs that the chef lady would make! Either way it meant I had something to eat.

After getting to our next hotel since the current one didnt have free rooms for any more nights, we then went to Osaka castle! (I knew noone was sick of reading about them!!)

Apparently this place is called crystal towers, but its just plain ol’ glass.

Yet another castle whose walls were breached by americans.

>Build museum for holding your countries relics
>Style it after a british castle
well done japan

The eco friendly fencing policy is also in place here!

Another lettuce garden. Im sure whoever did it was fired after they found out he was planting vegetables everywhere.

This is how men make a time capsule, not those pansy ass cardboard boxes you put in your backyard. this thing is down there for 5,000 years!!

Apparently this is what passes for ‘museum material’ round these parts

As usual, a diorama! This was a change since it was cool combat!

Now… they didnt allow photography for 2 of the floors, which was kind of lame, but since you have no way to prove me wrong: those floors were sooooo good and took up most of the day. Id have so much more if they had let me.

Rooftop view, its nice to be able to see way out in the distance until smog blocks out the rest.

surprise torii!!

I thought this was some kind of knockoff yoshi at first… a little disappointed now

Ok… so you have a well. Obviously youve trapped something down there since youve put the giant rock over the top… but what is the stupid piece of metal doing padlocked on top of that??? need some extra weight??

The size of the main gate relative to a japanese person. I myself bumped my head while passing through.

Maybe you cant see it, but thats a raven sitting at the top of a small waterfall!

What kind of store gets in customers when they stick this sort of shit outside?

I guess thats descriptive

Warning: Hopes and dreams only lead to accidents

Tomorrow is aquarium for sure!!! I know because this is being written from the future and ive just gotten back and oh man it was good!

Japan - Day 13: Quiet day

Ok, this was a very uneventful day, especially since part of it was a repeat of yesterday!! Please accept this humble offering of pictures.

For all your enema needs

these are tasty! its custard fish but in leaf form!! and 4 different flavours <3

You think this buildings a piece of shit son? How about you sit under an atomic blast and see how you go.

For Randalll, i know you can appreciate a car like this.

Lots of cranes at the peace park, you can sign up your own donation of cranes too, which i thought was interesting. Id have thought thered be a lot more if you could donate.

These are like lettuce, but i guess they arent, because who would make a garden out of lettuce???

Im actually out of interesting pictures for today… There was the peace park in the morning, but lots of it is better seen in person. So now for a little writing to make up for it.

After the morning outing, we packed up our gear and it was time to head to Osaka! This time our seats were spread out on the train and i didnt have a window seat! I had to give it up so that a loli could experience the joy of the window. Now, this was a once in a lifetime opportunity as shinn could attest, and so i made the most of it. We talked about all the pressing issues: her kawaii imouto, whether she would like some of my melon pan etc etc. She then fell asleep while watching me read. This crossed off one of the ten things necessary to do in japan.

Havent done anything in osaka yet, havent even taken pictures! we went out for elmins birthday, met an american at an irish bar, had takoyaki roulette (i wanted the wasabi one but missed out ;_;)

Tomorrow i hope to go to the aquarium!! Lots of pictures of stupid fish!

Japan - Day 12: Not a cloud in sight

Off to Miyajima today, which is a huge torii thing in the middle of water! First time catching a ferry in japan too, it was the type that lets cars hop on!

Here is the view from the wharf!…

Now, here are some interesting facts about Myajima: total population is 2500, of that 15 are people. Now… what makes up the rest you are probably wondering??

Deer are president now. They run everything. I saw one kick a girl in the head because she wouldnt give him some corn on a stick (not kidding). They are cool though, and they are just walking around everywhere letting people pet them and take photos of them at lewd angles.

Annnnyway, here are the pictures:

This torii is small time.

Now we’re talking! This bad boy was actually carved from an even larger torii almost 700 years ago by a legendary samurai. Due to the fear locals still have of this long dead hero, they put all their coins in the base of the gate as soon as the tide is low enough to do so.

Pretty cool place.

now, some of you didnt believe me when i showed you the early version of a manhole cover… but here we are! TOLD

Cool little stream that goes through the town. Deer like to hang out here.

Water is starting to go down, so people are already rushing out to pay tribute. Also note in the centre, the 5 tier pagoda. I couldnt get any better shot really, so dont expect one.

These people are just enslaved by every animal that turns up! Surprisingly these arent related to the carp king, but they had heard of each other.

There were meant to be lots of photos from up a mountain path i went, but i guess i only took a couple and they werent that great…. So ill just pretend it never happened and continue with the rest of the day.

There was a temple type thing here which houses a heritage listed object. as usual it costs to get in, but just 300¥ so no problem yo.

Inside the temple were all the usual temple fare: drinking tepid water, shaking a stick around that has paper on the end, throwing coins at private property etc etc.

Then came the real deal, the sole reason this entire island is heritage listed

oh my god, check out those joins. This is the first known verandah in existence, and so they have this baby protected with a wooden barrier, a rope barrier and also hundreds of incantations to prevent weather damage.

OH MAN!!!!! I TOOK A PICTURE OF THIS!!! IM A GOD. This is the deer that had to put a girl back in her place. note the corn in her dads hand, since the deer went back for round two later.

Please give a fuck at all times.

There were so many pictures of horses getting ridden through water… I dont know if these are all here as a users guide of what not to do…

Obviously he didnt read the rules above

Used by soothsayers of years past, this fortune compass would point out the location of the 12 legendary dragonballs; this was later cut down to 7 due to the laziness of the japanese people.

B-b-b-back dat deer ass up.

Due to the difficulty in catching birds, falconry was often done using midgets, which were in abundance.

Later, robot arms with heat seeking laser beams and spinning katana wings were added.

SAY THAT TO MY FACE DAMN HORSE

wow… great effort with your diorama, miyajima… /clap

Spoon made for gaijin. apaprently miyajima invented the rice spoon and then it proliferated across the world.

Majin buu apparently has his own chain of high powered ferries around these parts!

I told you i would put up a picture of okinomiyaki didnt i??! well here it is! this one had a bonus egg!!!

Later we went to the A-Bomb memorial dome and park, which, being night time wasnt the best for taking pictures… or viewing things… or being warm. Im hoping to go back in the morning before we head on to our next location. Yes, the place is actually glowing green from radiation, and there were mirelurks in the water.

!!!!

So thats it for today! Again, im sorry for all this tourist level crap, ill try get some super interesting things done!!!
